New 2011 Federal Tax Credits for
Consumer Energy Efficiency
The federal government has extended The Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization and Job Creation Act of 2010 tax credit for energy efficiency into 2011. Homeowners can now receive a credit of 10% up to $500 for insulation on their primary residence. The tax credit applies to qualified energy efficient products installed between January to December of 2011. If a taxpayer claimed a residential energy tax credit of at least $500 prior to 2011, they would not be eligible to make a tax credit claim in 2011.
It is estimated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that typically homeowners can save up to 20% on heating and cooling costs by adding insulation and air sealing their homes. This represents a valuable cost savings in monthly utility bills. Banker Insulation has been helping homeowners take advantage of these current tax credits and lowering their energy needs.
